Facets of a Muse

Examining the guiding genius of writers everywhere

ferret-361577_640 Happy Finally-can-get-out-of-the-driveway Day!

The past few weeks have been a reminder that yes, it IS winter in Minnesota, and yes, it SUCKS if you have to drive anywhere. Last week we had the polar invasion of the “OMG Cold” temps and wind chills. This week was the week we got all the snow we should have been getting all season.

Needless to say, I am so glad I can work from home. Although, there is something to be said about getting out of the house for 10 hrs (8 hr shift + 1 hr commute both ways). And cabin fever has become one of my “favorite” terms this week.

Hubs finally cleared the driveway last night. We got 4-5 inches of snow in the first wave, and an additional 2-4 inches in the second wave, so he waited until both waves went through before snowblowing. Remember, we have a 1/4 mile driveway, so there was no way I was getting out until he cleared the drive. Oh, and the ground blizzard afterwards. It was like we were in one of those National Geographic episodes they film in the Arctic. Or the Antarctic. Take your pick.

So, all that time the past week I didn’t have to commute I spent working on my promo stuff. You know, figuring out how to build a website, designing FB headers, Twitter headers, waiting impatiently for my publisher to fix stuff. The usual.

Thing is, we’re within 6 weeks of release, and according to my editor, they are WAY behind. Turns out they have been enjoying the same type of lousy winter weather we’ve been having. They are out in the Northwest, and while here in MN we get some ice and a lot of snow, in Seattle they don’t get quite as cold. And hills. Lots of hills. So icy + hills = not fun. So I decided to “help”. Actually, I decided I can’t wait any longer for them to get some of this stuff done.

Are you ready?

You sure?

In case you were wondering about the ferret, you’ll have to read the book to find out. Heh. See what I did there?

You really sure you’re ready?

Release date: March 12, 2019

Sierra Bauer, aircraft mechanic, struggled against personal tragedy to reclaim control of her life and her aviation career, but when she discovers a frozen body in her inspection plane, she must prove her innocence and uncover the key to exposing a deadly aviation conspiracy before she becomes the next casualty.

Here are the links for pre-order:  Barnes and Noble        Amazon

BE AWARE there will be an ebook as well, but my publisher has not listed it yet. There will also be an audiobook that should be available at the same time; the audiobook publisher is working to match the book’s release date. I still have to add search categories to the Amazon listing, but there are some good posts around about how to do that.

Whew. Okay, I feel better now. Sort of. There is still a lot to do and not a whole lot of time in which to do it.

The next thing on the list is lining up compadres who would like to help spread the word on release day. Give me a shout if you want in: jmgoebel (at) outlook (dot) com (don’t ask. really.) or use the contact form on my About page. I already have a few takers. Still working on those release posts 🙂

I hope to unveil my author website soon, with a cool countdown to the release.

This is getting both exciting and scary.

Okay, back to work. Have a wonderful weekend all!

Author: Julie Holmes, author

A fiction writer since elementary school (many years ago), and NaNoWriMo annual participant for over a decade, I have been published in small press magazines such as "Fighting Chance" and "The Galactic Citizen". I write adult mystery with a touch of romance, mystery with extrasensory elements, contemporary fantasy, and epic fantasy, and I'm represented by the fabulous Cynthia Zigmund of Second City Publishing Services. My debut novel, "Murder in Plane Sight", has been released by Camel Press (an imprint of Coffeetown Press/Epicenter Press). In real life, I am a technical writer and empty-nester with a wonderful hubby, one cat (what writer doesn't have cats??), two dogs, four chickens, and more chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits than any garden should have to deal with. My garden, our hobby farm, and Nature's annual seasons are some of my muses.

  3. Terrific news and I love the cover. I can tell the cat is excited, too! Good work! And here’s hoping your winter eases up a bit. We haven’t had much snow, but we’ve had it often followed by rain, followed by frigid temps. You can ice skate most anywhere at this point.

    • Thanks, Molly! Ick, that’s worse than snow. We had freezing rain on Monday, then of course over half a foot of snow and way below freezing temps, so the road chemicals don’t work. Needless to say, travel was not fun around here.

      Have a great weekend!

  4. Love the cover and blurb! I will order my copy when the eBook is available. The title is such a great play on words. Yay!
I know about hills and ice, thats what we deal with here too when it snows, and thats what its doing now, so Im not going anywhere for a while either. Also have that long driveway to be cleared. Its the cats that get the cabin fever the worst:)

Congrats again Julie on cover release:)

    • Thanks, Denise! Glad you like the title. Now to think of something clever for book 2….

And I hear you about the cats. Once it snows, Zoey doesn’t want to go out. Well, she wants to, but when she sees the snow, she decides against it.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Yay! The big reveal! Congrats on the cover, Julie. It looks great and the blurb is sharp and to the point. I’m sure the glow is taking care of any chill outside. 🙂 🙂

  7. Hooray! Finally! Are you so thrilled? Do you like the cover? No issues with what the work they did, unlike my publisher? 🙂 Is that the Mpls skyline? So exciting! Setting search terms on Amazon is another thing I have to do with THIS publisher that I didn’t have to with the last. Still don’t get why that is. Whatever! Oh, Zoey! Looking as adorable as ever! Meow! Prrrrrr…

    • I do like the cover. My publisher is way behind, partially due to the nasty weather they’ve been having in Seattle, where they are. Yep, that’s the Minneapolis skyline. Still have to figure out how to set the search terms. I read a post about how to do that a while back; now to find it.

Have a great rest of your weekend, Betsy!

      • My pub sent me a link about the search terms, I think. I should probably find that. 🙂 I’ll send it to you too.

  9. I think Zoey is uber excited about your cover reveal. I know I am!!! Beeeautiful cover, Julie! I can’t wait for the book. I even clicked the Amazon link before reading any further, then realized the ebook isn’t available for pre-order yet. Which I would have realized if I kept reading your post, LOL. I’ll pre-order as soon as the link is available.

Congratulations, and YOU KNOW (I hope) I want to host you on my blog. I’m out of town 3/22 thru 3/25 but other than that, take your pick of any Monday thru Thursday. I can’t wait to spread the news!

As for the snow you had, in comparison I feel kind of silly complaining about the few inches we got in PA 🙂
I am so freaking ready for spring!!

    • Thanks, Mae! I’m hoping they will get that on the listing soon. And yes, you are on my list–THANK YOU! The release is the 12th, so it should be before you leave.

As for snow, we’re getting another 4 inches today, and another 4-6 on Tuesday. Then, more on Thursday.

I am SO done with winter. It was a nice mild winter up until two weeks ago!

      Stay warm!

  12. Hooray!! 🎉 Wow! Julie, this is a fantastic cover … great image and love the fonts and colour of both your name and the title! The blurb is succinct and immediate, immediately pulling us in, eager to read more. Look forward to following your countdown to launch! 😀

    • Thanks, Annika! It’s always kind of a crap shoot with covers; what I like may not be the best design. I think this one works.

Still working on the website. And wondering if my past IT experience really is enough to do it myself. I suppose I’ll find out! Sooner rather than later, ideally.

Have a great rest of your week!
