Facets of a Muse

Examining the guiding genius of writers everywhere

Happy Holidays!

May your travels be safe.

May your family be sane.

May you enjoy fellowship in your wanderings/gatherings.

May your carols be in-tune.

May you still find time in all the hustle and bustle to WRITE!

Even if it’s a paragraph. Even if it’s a dashed mad rant about your over-affectionate octogenarian relative. Even if it’s a heartfelt thank you. Find time to write.

WRITE. Can you hear me now?

I’ve been slacking the past few days, but in my defense, I got my cookies baked! Now, to guard them against the horde until Christmas Eve, when I have no available freezer space and an unusually warm December in MN.

To all of you and yours:

Author: Julie Holmes, author

A fiction writer since elementary school (many years ago), and NaNoWriMo annual participant for over a decade, I have been published in small press magazines such as "Fighting Chance" and "The Galactic Citizen". I write adult mystery with a touch of romance, mystery with extrasensory elements, contemporary fantasy, and epic fantasy, and I'm represented by the fabulous Cynthia Zigmund of Second City Publishing Services. My debut novel, "Murder in Plane Sight", has been released by Camel Press (an imprint of Coffeetown Press/Epicenter Press). In real life, I am a technical writer and empty-nester with a wonderful hubby, three cats (what writer doesn't have cats??), and more chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits than any garden should have to deal with. My garden, our hobby farm, and Nature's annual seasons are some of my muses.

  2. Merry Christmas, Julie. Wishing you and your family lots of cheer and joy (and a wee bit of writing for you). Mr. E sends holiday greetings as well 🙂

    • Merry Christmas to you, Mae! Best wishes and lots of fun to you and yours! My Muse sends his greetings as well (I was afraid he was going to show up in a Santa hat with a yard-long candy cane to “encourage” me, but I think he’s out tracking down a tree and some lights for my writing office 🙂

  4. Happy holidays and Happy New Year to you Julie! Well I’ve managed the first three on your list but as for my singing, don’t ask and no chance of writing alas…nonstop family parties, wedding, travels…but feel refreshed and keen to write soon. Best hoard some of the pepparkakkor for the occasion.

    • Thanks, Annika! Happy New Year to you! Now I’m battling that gift that keeps on giving after gathering with small children–a nasty cold. Trying to write, but no writing done from Christmas Eve through the Sunday after Christmas. Trying to dive in, if my cold-induced fatigue will hold off 🙂 Enjoy the rest of the holidays!

      • Darn those nasty colds – almost inevitable with little ones around and all their friends. I do hope you soon get better and in the meantime can’t you just roll with it for a few more days, dropping the guilt about not writing and just take a chance to recover. Soon you’ll be strong enough to power away on that keyboard (or do you write on paper first?) Take cAre and happy holidays to you (cold et al).
